Born and raised in Maine, Aislinn Sarnacki wears many hats. She’s an outdoor journalist, guidebook author, registered Maine guide, public speaker, adjunct professor of journalism at the University of Maine and TV show host on PBS.

After graduating from the University of Maine in Orono in 2010 with Highest Honors and a bachelor’s degree in journalism, she worked full-time as a journalist and editor at the Bangor Daily News for over a decade. She wrote primarily about conservation, nature, climate change, homesteading and outdoor activities. She also served as a photographer and videographer at the news.

She was the recipient of the Maine Press Association Bob Drake Young Writer's Award in 2012, and in the following years received several awards from the same organization, including First Place Features/Lifestyle Blogger in 2014 and 2016.

Today, she continues to appear in the paper as a columnist in the Outdoors section.

As a freelance writer, Sarnacki has written for local publications such as “Bangor Metro,” “Down East Magazine,” “Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors,” “MAINE Alumni” magazine, and “Activities Guide of Maine.”

She's the author of three guidebooks, published by Down East Books: "Family Friendly Hikes in Maine" (2017), "Maine Hikes Off the Beaten Path" (2018), and “Dog-Friendly Hikes in Maine” (2019). They include her photographs and personal essays.

In 2021, Sarnacki passed the tests required to become a Registered Maine Guide in recreation. She leads interpretive hikes through her guiding company, Maine Nature Hikes.

Most recently, Sarnacki became the host of the new outdoor TV show, “Borealis,” on Maine Public Television — which includes TV episodes, online extras and a podcast.
